The African Development Bank opened a donor conference in London on December 15 to raise $25 billion for its African Development Fund (ADF), which provides concessional loans to low-income African countries. The Trump administration withheld a $197 million payment pledged in the prior funding round.
AfDB resource mobilization head Valerie Dabady said a $560 million grant funding gap could persist without U.S. commitment. Denmark increased its contribution 40% to 1.1 billion Danish crowns ($171 million); Kenya pledged $20 million last year. The U.S. contributed nearly 7% of the ADF's $8.9 billion 2022 replenishment.
